I was born in Trento, Italy in 1961, and received the Laurea degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova in 1987, with a thesis on lexical analysis for synthesis purposes. In 1988 I joined IRST as Researcher of the Acoustic and Speech Recognition group (later Speech Recognition Systems Project, now splitted into 3 projects).
In the past I was involved in lexical stress assignment for synthesis purposes, morphological analysis, stochastic language modeling, speech corpora design and collection, development of a speech understanding system for the navigation of a mobile robot, acoustic modeling for speech recognition, large-vocabulary speech recognition and word spotting. My publication list is here.
At present, my research interests include mainly speech recognition over the telephone and dialogue modeling. If you want more information have a look at the page of the project DITELO- Dialogo su Telefono.
One of my hobbies is origami. Have a look at some models I've folded. Together with some friends, "le 7 pieghe", we organized an origami exhibition.
